From food truck to shelf

The sauce started with a family table.

Chef Julius West grew up learning that food is a way to show care. Sarge's brings that same feeling home.

Meet Chef Julius West

Born from hospitality.

Sarge's is named in honor of Julius's father, a Sergeant who served 30 years in the U.S. Air Force. The Wests are a proud military family.

Chef Julius West's love of food developed while travelling the United States as the son of an Air Force Sergeant. He spent hours in the kitchen with his mother, whose family came from Charleston, learning that thoughtfully preparing traditional, homestyle dishes is a way to show others care and respect.

In 2012, Julius and his wife Janet opened Sarge's Chef on Wheels. The menu was inspired by the many places they lived as a military family, bringing together a down-home style with Asian and Caribbean flair. Shrimp and grits quickly became the dish guests came back for.

When people kept asking how to make that sauce at home, the family bottled it. The first jars arrived in 2019. Today, Sarge's makes it easier to put a generous, comforting meal on the table.
